Holtering a Silken Windhound
This is geared towards the ISWS holter rental program but the steps work for anyone wanting to use a 5 lead holter!
A holter is a 24 hour ECG; in layman’s terms it tests the electrical function of the heart. Any abnormal beats during that 24 hours are reported. The founding breeds of silken windhounds (windsprites, borzoi, and whippets) have some cardiac concerns so the parent club, ISWS, is supporting holter testing to hopefully catch a problem before it starts.

I wasn’t sure if any of them would even get in the water but they all did really well! This was really more of a swim lesson and acclimating to a dock diving pool ramp. This is how we go on walks now. Featuring Obie the white silken windhound and Fig the brindle borzoi. My inflatable rainbow came from Morph Costumes. The dogs’ costumes came from Target. Enjoy :)

Tiny Awoos! Borzoi puppy learns to howl

Her name is Whisper, funnily enough. She is almost 3 weeks old and she is a borzoi puppy. No, this won’t turn her into a howling monster- borzoi are characteristically a quiet breed and most will only howl like this if someone else is howling first to get them started. She doesn’t belong to me, I’m just puppy sitting and making sure her mama is feeding her regularly :)

Does the breed like to sing as a whole?
They’re definitely not as chatty as huskies. But most will get vocal if you get them started, or if they hear sirens. Only two of mine really sing with me or fire trucks but my other two will start singing once the first two get going. Occasionally they may get sassy with demand behaviors (Bandit also stomps his feet and makes a “Hey!!” kind of sound when he wants his water bowl refilled).
